OBITUARY NOTES

GEO. HITCHCOCK, PAINTER, DEAD IN NETHERLANDS

Word was received in London yesterday of the death last Saturday at Marken island, a short distance north of Amsterdam, of George Hitchcock,

the painter, aged 63. Death resulted from heart failure. Among Hitchcock's best known works are "Toilers* of the Sea," which is in the imperial collection at Vienna; "The Lark," in the art gallery in St. Louis; "Calypso." in the Herron art institute in Indianapolis; "Tulips and Hyacinths," in the municipal art gallery at Alkmaard. Holland; "Tulip Seller," in the art institute, Chicago, and "Spring Moon," in the Telfair aca <Jemy. Savannah, Ga. Mr. Hitchcock resided in Paris. He was born in Providence. R. t

Mrs. Addie C. Wicomb, aged 43, wife of Charles P. Wilcomb, 1426 Oak street, curator of the Oakland public museum, died yesterday morning after a lingering illness of five weeks at Fabiola hospital in Oakland. She had lived ln Oakland four years, coming from San Francisco with her husband. She also leaves a daughter, Louisa W. Wilcomb. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the California electric crematorium. Mrs. Etna R. Garllck, wife of Dr. P. G. Garlick, and a resident of Oakland for many years, is dead at her home in San Francisco. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Garlick, her father having been connected with the Oakland school department as county superintendent of schools and principal of the Cole and Lincoln grammar schools. Mrs. Garlick was a graduate of the University of California with the class of 1897, and taught in the Fullerton high school. James Rogers, 63 years old, father of John W. Rogers, acting clerk of the board of supervisors, died at his home in this city yesterday from heart failure. He was a resident of San Francisco for 42 years. He leaves a wife and five children. William Pitt Preble Longfellow, 77 years old, a nephew of the poet Longfellow, and an architect of note, died in Gloucester, Mass., yesterday.
