A bill had passed the Legislature granting certain privileges to Placerville, Humboldt and Salt Lake Telegraph Co, The route to Salt Lake is in excellent condition. A destructive fire had occurred in Carson Valley, destroying the barns of Capt. W. H. Smith, containing large quantities of hay and grain. Loss $3,000. The origin of the fire is unknown. Orders bare been received here from the mail contractors, by Major Chorpenning, to dispatch immediately a party, thoroughly equipped, to explore another route from Carson Valley via Walker's river, by what is known as the "Reeser Route," to Ruby Valley. Enough is already known of this route to shorten the distance very considerably, and thus lessen the time of travel. The party will leave here to-morrow, in an extra coach, for a thirty days' trip.
