WILL STUDY EVAPORATION

Mutual Water Companies of Imperial Valley Want Definite Basis on Which to Estimate Loss In Canals.

Kor several years past a difference of opinion has existed between officers of the California Development Company and the directors of the various mutual water companies of Imperial Valley as to the percentage of lo^s of water In the canals from evaporation. At present the supplying company makes a reduction of ten per t out. on the actual amount of water delivered to Ihe main canals as us estimate of the amount lost from this source, while many ranchers of the valley believe that the amount exceeds this.

Now a definite movement is on foot to determine the actual loss. A meeting of representatives of Water Companies Nos. 1, 4, 5, 7 and 8 was held In Imperial on Wednesday to discuss the matter, and it was decided to secure an expert to make investigations and study evaporation in this valley. It is probable that Frederick Scoby, an engineer of Denver, will be secured to make this investigation, and that the work wlli be undertaken by the first of Juno,
