SINGER SUES FOR A DIVORCE

The Wife of Dr. Rufus Bishop Files Application in Ohio COLUMBUS, 0., Dec. 27.—Genevra .Johnstone Bishop, by her attorney, J. C. Johnstone, her father, has Hied in the common pleas court at Marion her petition for divorce against her husband, Dr. Runts Bishop of Chicago, alleging gross neglect and failure to provide. Gtnevra Johnstone Bishop is widely known as the sweet-voiced soprano who has charmed audiences in opera, concert and oratorio throughout this country, France and the British Isles. She is the oldest child and only daughter of Mr .and Mrs. J. C. Johnstone of Marion. After studying under the most eminent vocalists of this country she went to France and Italy and studied there. She has been honored by the friendship of Fatti, and has been entertained at her castle in Wales. At many great events Mrs. Bishop has performed as soprano soloist, and it was she who rendered the last musical tribute to the lamented Emma Abbott. Some ten years since Mrs. Bishop, then Miss Johnstone, took up her residence 'n Chicago. There she met Dr. Rufus Bishop, a leading physician. Their acquaintance ripened into love, and they soon wedded. Their married life up to about a year ago was apparently happy. At about that time Mrs. Bishop moved her household goods to Marion and took up her residence at the home of her parents in order to acquire a legal residence in Marion. At present Mrs. Bis-hop is in Washington, where she sang Christmas day at the church attended by the president. It is stated that she will leave shortly for Europe, but whether before or after the date of hearing of her petition is simply a matter of conjecture. Dr. Bishop, it is understood 1 , will not make any defense.
