Advices from Portland. Portland. November IMI - 1 lie branch road constructed fr,.m Walla Walla ,o Colfax, W. T., bas reached tbe latter point, and it now has direct communication with Portland. The road was completed yesterday, and was the occasion of a demonstration „1 rejoicing on the part of citizens of Colfax. Pacific, and General Manager of the road, is now en route to tbis city and will reach here in a few days. - This morning John Sullivan, of this city, > while endeavoring to drive an infuriated bull, was chased by the brute, trampled under foot, and is believed to be fatally gored. Charl— Lawrence, a 'longshoreman, while on bis way home early this morning, was assaulted by two garroters, who beat him insensible with heavy club', and robbed him cf a sum of money. They then fled. It was some time before Lawrence was restored to consciousness. There is no clue to the robbers. fv An audacious attempt was made this morning to rob a Chinese store by two, white men. Tbey enteie*! the store, assaulted the proprietor, who was alone, and endeavored to capture a purse containing several hundred dollars. His desperate struggles and cries brought an officer, when the robbers fled and, notwithstanding a close pursuit, escaped.

Prominent Attorney li Trouble. Portland, November 12th. -A special dispatch from Olympia says that John •P. Judson, a prominent attorney of New Tacoma, has been arrested on complaint of C. R. Conner, of San Francisco, who is special examiner of the Pension Bureau. It appears that for over three years Judson has been collecting and withholding pension moneys due a discharged soldier named V*. Ryan. Judson was arrested on three — withholding pension money, negotiating drafts without proper authority, and forging Ryan's name on drafts. Ryan also has commenced a civil action against Judson to recover bis money. Judson waived examination, and waa bound over in the sum of $3,000. He furnished bail and was released. Heretofore Judson stood high professionally and socially. He is a prominent Democratic politician, and was a candidate for Delegate m Congress a few years ago. His arrest created a great sensation.
