A LIVE COUNTY.

Freitno's Educational Interests—Her Itecmit Teachent' Institute. Ira G. Hoitt, Superintendent of Public Instruction, returned on Friday from the County Teachers' Institute at Fiesno. He informed a Record Union reporler that he was somewhat surprised to find so large an increase in the number of teachers in the county. Fresno City people are j uatiy proud of their new school-houses, and of the city high school, established last year. Of the 218 new school buildings erected last year, Fresno county erected 12. "Professor Allen, Dr. Slratton and Professor Jones, of the State University, were present and each, as well as myself, lectured to full houses. Superintendent Hawkins presented a good programme, and the teachers and public manifested an earnest spirit in the cause of education, and a disposition to garner and to broadcast whatever of grains of truth had been previously harvested. The press ot Fresno takes a lively interest in all educational matters, and by its help the educational interests have kept pace with the real estate boom. Fresno county has a good, bright corps of teachers, and the people appreciate them."
