Wheat Firmly Held in the San Francisco Market.

Holders Consider the Sltnation Wnolly In Their t'avor, and Are Not Anxious to Sell.

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 19th. Wheat was very firmly held in the local market yesterday, and the inquiry for export account was active. Holders, however, consider the In their favor, and they are not manifesting any anxiety to sell, • yen at the present advanced rates. The English market keeps up well, and the tendency is slightly upward, while the Eastern markets are inclined the same way. The market here, however, is independent of the trivial trade conditions ruling elsewhere, and California Wheat-growers are in a fair way to reap the benefits accruing by reason of our favorable position with relation to the Australasian colonies. Barley is not selling very freely, but values are well sustained, considering the rains of the past few days. Btocks on hand in the State, however, are large. During the dry weather large quant: ilea were held in the interior counties in anticipation ot a dry season. As soon as prosiects appear favorable for the new crop, dealers expect very heavy receipts here, and unless the export demand develops more activity, lower prices may be looked lor. In the local Produce market trade was quiet vesterduy, and psiees ou nearly all lines were ratiier easy, l resh t rulia are Inactive, and as supplies aie accumulating, there is some shading ot asking prices. Cnolce Potatoes are moving o;i slowly at quotations. Bweet Potatoes of good quality are scarce, aud bring goad figures, wnlle off grades are difficult to sell at auy price. There has been some little Inquiry lor choice Hops at ai out 5@6 cents a pound, but the sales have been email, as few holders will sell tuelr good stock at those figures. Dried brails are unofferings are rather more liberal thau before the holidays, but the uemand is very light. Dairy Products are steady, particularly the best quality ot Creamery nutter ana new Cheeae. Jcggs are cheaper. Poultry is dull. Produce Quotations.
