Clallam Official's Narrow Escape.

PORT TOWNSEND, WASH., Sept. 23.— While returning from an official trip to East Clallam on Sunday County Surveyor E. A. Fitzhenry of Clallam County barely escaped with his life from a falling tree, which smashed the pommel of his saddle and broke the neck of the horse he was riding. The force of the blow drove Fitzhenry into the air as though shot from a catapult. He escaped uninjured.
