REDONDO BEACH

REDONDO BEACH, June 29.—Once moce the tide of summer visitors has set in toward Redondo and this pretty resort finds itself thronged with people from every nearby corner of the interior. As usual at this season of the year, the beut-h weather is <•<»..' and refreshing. in strong contrast to that of Inland points. Nearly all of the cottages on the ocean front have been occupied or engaged. and the overflow seeks accommodation in tents, or retires to cottagc« farther back from the beach. Hotel Redondo has thrown open its doors for another brisk summer cam- , paign and they were no sooner open than a number of old patrons returned. In fact several presented themselves before the management was ready to receive guests. The big hotel is being conducted this year by its owners, the Redondo Hotel company, which is itself a guarantee that everything will be first class. Many improvements have been made about the house since it was closed last fall; not the least of these is the addition of two new bowling alleys. The popularity of the sport makes this a strong addition to the amusement features of Redondo. For the past few weeks a force of men has been at work on the golf-links, which are now in better shape than ever before. The Redondo Beach Country club has secured the services of W. C. W. Watkinn, the professional golfer, who will have charge of the links. An open handicap golf tourna.ment will be given by the club on Saturday, July 6, under the direction of the Southern California Golf association. This evening the opening of the season will be formally celebrated with a hop at the hotel. Many of the wellknown society folk of Los Angeles and Pasadena will attend. Mr. and Mrs. William Pridham have taken their old apartments at the hotel - for the entire summer. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Solano are among the prominent Angelenos who have come down to enjoy the hospitality of Hotel Redondo. Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Alnsworth have gone to Portland, Ore., to remain for Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Young are at the hotel for an extended sojourn. Lieutenant Barlow, XT. S. A., has established headquarters at the hotel for the season. Anglers are enjoying no end of sport these days. The large mackerel are running freely and it is often a dimcult matter to find a place on the pier from which to cast a line.
