BISHOP SECURES BUILDING FUNDS

John W. Hamilton Places $50,000 in Hands of Methodists.

Bishop Hamilton ' of the Methodist ' Episcopal Church has. been .'exceedingly busy this week and immedifafeiyYtipon his arrival last Tuesday -•attended;' the Methodist church reconstruction 60m- | mittee meeting. • The'needs 6f the •;church were told by each pastor whose house of worship had suffered. Great amounts of money had- been .promised by- the Missionary -..Board and other 1 sources in the-East and It had been proposed to dollect the munificent sum of $1,000,000 through the Laymen's Loyal League for the ' needs . of ' the Methodist church in California. Bishop Hamilton himself brought with -him and placed- in' the hands of his brethren the sum ofJoO.dOO. while the Eastern Methodist organizations sent handsome sums' to meef Immediate needs. California-street Methodist Episcopal Church. ' represented by W. C. Baker-, needs $6500; Epworth Church, through Rev E G. Keith, asked for $15,000 for an entirely new building, although-the-present structure was not badly -affected "and $1000 would dbvef the damage Dr. W. S. Matthew announced that $100 would suffice to" put Fifteenthavenue Methodist Episcopal Mission .in order, the damage having been very small. ' The "Rev, Mr. Chenowyth reported that, a building to .take the place of the First Church, on Powell street, would cost $40,000. .F. L. Turpin and C. H. J; Truman reported that $12,000 wouli be needed for Immediate repairs to Grace Church. The He v., Mr Tteeder asked for $19,000 foT the erection of Hamilton Church. Dr. Bane estimated that the cost of rebuilding on the site of Howard-street Methodist Church Would be $82,000.
