OAKLAND, Dec. 22— From their headquarters at 1359 Broadway the members of Oakland' lodge No. 171, B. P. O. E., will distribute 1,000 baskets of Christmas dinners to deserving families in this city next Saturday. Fifty automobiles and as many delivery wagons have been procured for the distribution, which "will be directed by I. Harrison Clay and . George Blethen. These men have directed the same work for several years. Thirty-five members of the lodge will constitute .the regular committee for distribution, and necessary aid will- be given by others. Names of needly fami-lies-have been secretly turned into, the general committee, and the method of delivering the 'dinners is such that the secrecy, is maintained.' The .deliveries are made as, if to purchasers " from stores. Last year in this way 600 complete dinners, with fuel, were sent out There will be about 300 more than that number distributed Saturday. ,' The expenses of the Christmas giving was raised at the" Grizzly Flat carnival, -by which. the. I<orsbach Ben Wright Will Feed Poor " ALAMEDA, Dec. 22.— 1n accordance with its established custom Alameda 'lodge of Elkswill furnisha Christmas dinner for every deserving needy person and familyin the city. The lodge has- been provided with the names of the deserving poor, and on Christmas morning- the baskets containing the dinners will be distributed. The Elks' committee iri charge of the arrangements for putting up and distributing the dinners Is headed by W. G. Taylor.
