Slowly Sinking

TOKYO, Sept. 17.— Bishop Scth Ward of the Methodist- Episcopal church. South-, who arrived in Japan last month on his regular tour of tho Methodist missions and who was taken 111 at KobeH|hortly after his arrival, is gradually sinking and little hope of recovery is entertained.

Was in Poor Health

Bishop Ward, who comes from Houston, Tex., sailed from San Francisco for the orient late i» July. While he ■was not known to have any chronic ailment he -was in poor health and his friends sought to dissuade hfm from making the trip, as they feared it might prove too great a tax upon his constitution. Bishop Ward is 51 years of age. Ho served as assistant missionary secretary of i the Methodist Episcopal church. Sonth. from 1302 until 1906. and was elected bishop in the latter year.
