The Proposed Railroad

The board of supervisors at their meeting-this week were informed that next month an application for a franchise for an electric road would be made, taking in the mineral belt from Plymouth to Jackson, and thence running direct to Sacramento. It is reported so far that local men are irvtere°ted in'this project namely, Julius Chichizola. J. Brignole, C. P. Vicini and C. Jarvis. It is probable that strong monetary interests are behind the scheme. For some time parties have been working on a project for an electric road from Sacramento to Jackson, taking in all the mining towns along the mother lode. The motive power can be secured by the immense waterpower facilities in the vicinity of Pine Grove and Volcano. Such a road would be of incalculable benefit to Amador county, both from a mineral and agricultural standpoint. The water after being used for the generation of electricitywould be available for irrigating purposes, and this is just what is needed to build up our fruit industry. It is claimed that with a line to Sacramento, mining timbers and' lumber could be delivered to every mine along the lode at a saving of at least $3 per 1000 feet on existing cost. This in itself is a big item. In addition all other supplies such as fuel, oil, etc. would be proportionately reduced in cost. The proect should be encouraged by every one who has the welfare of Amador county at heart.
