Moratorium march was peaceful

An estimated 3000 people showed up Saturday for a peaceful commemoration of the Aug. 29, 1970 Chicano Moratorium march, retracing the route of that demonstration which ended with the death of three people. Chanting “Chicano power” and “Barrios Guidos,” the marchers proceeded from Belvedere Park to Salazar Park, named for Ruben Salazar, one of the victims of the 1970 march. A portrait of Salazar was carried at the front of the procession. The event was sponsored by the August 29th Chicano Moaratorium Coalition and the National Chicano Moratorium March. The marchers managed their own security, at one point keeping a Communist

Workers Party contigent out of the line. The sheriff's department had deputies in reserve, but they proceed not to be needed. Entertainment., and speakers concluded the day at Salazar Park.
