BURNS FATAL TO AGED ARCATA RESIDENT Christopher Kohler, 80, Victim of Unusual Accident BURNED IN GRASS FIRE Died Two Days Later in Trinity Hospital— No Relatives Survive

Christopher Kohler succumbed on 'Sunday afternoon at the Trinity hospital in Areata to burns received ■ when he fell into a grass fire late Friday at his home in Areata He was jBO years old, and little hope had 'been held out for his recovery due to his age and the extensive burns he suffered. Kohler was found in a semi-con-scious condition by neighbors who were attracted to the scene of the tragedy by his screams. It is believled that his clothing may have caught fire while he was engaged in burning weeds near his home, and that in his efforts to extinguish them, he fell into the fire. Third degree burns covered nearly all of his body. His clothes had been stripped from his body by the flames and his body was burned from head to foot. Kohler has been a resident of Arcata for many years, and retired from active work about six years ago. He was a lumber worker. He lived alone at his home on F street, a childless widower. He w as a native of Germany and has no known relatives. Funeral services were held from Black’s funeral chapel in Arcata at 1:30 o’clock Wednesday afternoon under the auspices of the I. O. O. F. Kohler was a member of Monroe Lodge, No. 289, of Willows, Glenn county.
