RAdm. Eddie R. Sanders, First to Test-Fly a Captured Japanese Zero in WWII, Dies

Retired Rear Adm. Eddie R. Sanders, the first American to test-fly a captured Japanese Zero during World War 11. died Jan. 19 at the Coronado Villa Hospital. He was 85. Admiral Sanders, an Illinois native and 1930 Naval Academy graduate, was commander of the aircraft carrier Hancock and during World War II received numerous medals and citations.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Coronado; a son, Thomas of Coronado; a daughter, Suzanne Wilson of Ukiah, Mendocino County, and four grandchildren. There were no services. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Parkinsons Foundation, 9911 West Pico Blvd. Suite 500, Los Angeles, 90035.
