Mayor Herron Delivers "State of The City" Address

by Larry Wade

On Valentine's Day morning at 7:30 am a crowd of 45 braved the torrential downpour to gather at the Graham Memorial Church Breakfast Club. Coronado Mayor Mary Herron spoke about the current “State of the City.” She described this as a “time of new beginnings” since last November’s election. She senses a “new energy in city government.” She described the city’s effort toward “total quality” as a “city-wide commitment” to enhance life in Coronado.” Mayor Herron cited continued progress on the police building and the public service facility. She mentioned discussions of a new city hall. She described the many opportunities for civic enhancement which have long been part of Coronado entirely through volunteer initiative, like the annual flower show and the Fourth of July Celebration and Parade. More recently the environmental lestoi alien of the Silver Strand scenic highway has been added. Mayor Herron spoke about the importance of following through on the Business Area Development Plan, and cited the possibility of the Ocean Links Golf Course to be located at the southerly entrance to Coronado along the water. All of these opportunities and more lie

before us, she indicated, adding that to undertake them all, and make the most of them requires a gearing up by the city, and perhaps adding some staff members. She concluded by urging citizens to participate in the new strategic planning process (begun last Saturday at the community workshop held at Village School).
