Betty Sanders’ 80th Birthday Is Celebrated

Betty Sanders celebrated her eightieth birthday with family and friends on March 12, at the Coronado Women’s Club. Her children, Sheila Robertson and Dick Sanders and her daughter-in-law, Cindi Sanders, prepared the sit-down dinner for 80 people. Three of her grandchildren were in attendance; Scott and Shelly Sanders and Melissa Robertson. Wendy Robertson, who attends the University of lowa, was unable to attend. Betty and her husband, Dick, moved to Coronado in 1943, when Dick was in the Navy. Mr. Sanders was in charge of photography for the 11th Naval District and was sent to the atomic bomb drop at Bikini. In 1947, Dick retired from the Navy and began working for the Eastman Kodak Company. In 1952, the family moved out of the area but knew they would return eventually and make Coronado their home.

Betty and Dick returned to Coronado in 1970 and purchased their home on First Street. Betty obtained her real estate license and worked in real estate for 16 years. Dick passed away in 1990. Betty gave up her real estate license and went to work as a Pink Lady at the Coronado Hospital, where she ran the Second Best Shop, Life in Coronado has been good to Betty, she says. “How wonderful to celebrate your 80th birthday with 80 special friends.”
