Services To Be Held Tomorrow For Captain Kenneth V. McArthur

Capt. Kenneth Vincent McArthur passed away early May 7 at the Balboa Naval Hospital, San Diego. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday May 11 at Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church in Coronado, followed by interment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. Capt. McArthur was bom April 30, 1925 in McKenna, Washington to the late Alexander and Lillian McArthur. He enlisted in the Navy during World War 11, serving from 1943 to 1945. He attended the Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) after which he was admitted to the Naval Academy, graduating in 1949.

Subsequent to graduation, Ken McArthur served in the surface fleet followed by flight training at Pensacola, FL. As a member of VF-154 he flew AD’s in the Korean War. A few of the highlights of Ken ’ s career i ncluded post-graduate school, Monterey (1956); Join Services Staff College, Latimer, Bucks, England (1964); commanding officer of VA-153 in Vietnam (1965); staff duty in Washington D.C. and Norfolk (1966-1973). Captain McArthur’s last tour of duty was commanding officer of Nuclear Weapons Training Group at NAS North Island. His decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross (with gold star);

Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal (four gold stars and six numerals), Joint Service Commendations Medal (Combat “V” and two gold stars), Navy Unit Commendation Medal (four bronze stars), various other medals including those for Korea and Vietnam. Following a very active career in naval Aviation, Captain Ken Me Arthur retired in 1978 and he pursued golf, his favorite pastime. He is survived by his wife Barbara, daughters Kimberly and Krista of Coronado; a sister Eileen Fawcett of Spokane, WA.; and brother Douglas McArthur of Tacoma, WA. The family suggests memorial donations be sent to the Association of Naval Aviation for the Naval Aviation Museum, P.O. Box 33104, NAS Pensacola, FL. 32508-3104.
