Regarding Residential Development Standards

Dear Editor: Fellow citizens and residents of Coronado, you 're being had by your City’ Council working in cahoots with, and fronting for, the development interests in Coronado. Didn’t it seem strange that the “informational presentation” on the new Residential Development Standards was published in the Eagle rather than promulgated in a more traditional city-wide mail-out? Didn’t it seem stranger that there were three prologue editorials, all attacking the FAR, all written by acknowledged pro development interest; and that there were no commentaries supporting the new standards? Didn’t it seem even strange that there was a straw ballot seeking public comments on an ordinance that became law some seven months ago? What other ordi-

nances receive such attention? What a set-up!! Your City council has just established a phony straw vote in order to provide justification to undo the good work that went into the revised standards. Don’t you all know that the development interests in this city have their pens poised to stuff the ballot box in their favor — not yours!!! The citizens and residents of Coronado deserve much better than this from their City Council, that they elected presumably to represent their best interests!!! Just a few facts relative to this issue: —The new development standards were developed over a period of more than two years by the Planning Commission and then by the City Council. There were at least eight public workshops and 13 public hearings held by the Planning Commission, and numerous public hearings by the City Council prior to adopting the new standards—so there was ample opportunity for input from the entire community! —The new standards were adopted by the City Council in November 1994 by a - 0 vote—so what’s changed since then except two council seats??? Three of the current council mem

bers supported the new standards last November —so what’s changed??? This phony charade by the Coronado City Council should not be tolerated by the citizens of Coronado!!! Sincerely, Jospeh T. Talbert Jr.
