Coronado Library Fights Damage From Water Leak

Quick action by a Coronado Library employee and Coronado firefighters kept a water leak, discovered in the library before opening Dec. 21, from damaging equipment or materials or inconveniencing the public. According to Library Director Christian Esquevin, the leak began when a water fountain hose broke late Saturday night or early Sunday morning in the area near the videos and public restrooms. “There was quite a lot of water on the floor in the back of the library.” he said. Firefighters were notified at 10:20 am, and shut off the water and removed as much water as they could. “The fire department squeegied out a lot of water into the drains in the bathrooms,” Esquevin said.

An emergency crew from a commercial Hood control service vacuumed up the rest of the water and brought in a dehumidifier. No water reached books or other library materials. The rug

was stained, but the stains may come out after the carpet is washed, Esquevin said. The library opened on time Sunday with little disruption to readers.
