International Punster & Author To Speak At Coronado Library

Dr. Richard Lederer, 1989 International Punster of the Year, will be the featured speaker at ‘An Evening of Language and Laughter’. The event will be held at 6:30 P.M.. in the Winn Room of the library on Wednesday, April 29. It is sponsored by the Friends of the Coronado Library Endowment Committee and is open to the public. An author, speaker, columnist and teacher. Dr. Lederer has written more than 2000 books and articles about language and humor, including his bestselling “Anguished English” and “The Miracle of Language” and his current book, “Fractured English.”

His syndicated column “Looking at Language,” reaches more than a million readers in newspapers and magazines throughout the United States. Considered by William F. Buckley as one of the “bestselling guardians of American English,” Lederer is known as an entertaining and informative speaker. His talks and workshops about language and writing have been called “as much a performance as a presentation” and “learning dressed up to have fun.” The Book-of-the-Month Club calls Dr. Lederer, “America’s Wittiest Verbalist,” and Edwin Newman says, “Richard Lederer’s delight in the English language is itself delightful - and contagious.” A selection of Dr. Lederer’s books will be available for purchase at the event and he will be signing copies at the conclusion of the evening.
