California Farmer and Journal of Useful Sciences, Volume 7, Number 20, 29 May 1857 — New Quartz Crusher. [ARTICLE]

New Quartz Crusher.

We have examined the machine invented by Mr. Henry Goulding, for Drilling Tvock and Crushing Quartz. It is a pawerful instrument and worthy attention of all interested. Mr. G. commenced it five years ago, and has been work ing upon it ever since, so as to improve all its powers. The machine consists of one drill, attached directly to the piston rod. is worked by compressed air, and gives 250 to 400 blows per minute; the former for drilling, the latter for quartz crushing. The machine is light and portable, can be moved by two men from place to place; the drill being 200 pounds weight, quartz mill snd mortars 300 to 350 pounds.

A new amalgamator is also in use, in connection with this crusher, and is of singular but most ingenious construction. These are all operating at the Fulton Foundery of Messrs. Hinckley. Hyde <f Co. on Davis street, near California; where can also be seen many Quartz Crushers, Messrs. Hinckley, Hyde & Co. being quite celebrated for the manufacture of excellent mills, from a peculiar quality of iron, far superior to that generally used.
