Los Angeles—Lieut. Beale, with Ins camel train, arrived at Los Angeles, on the 9th bat., from Snn Antonio, Texas. 1 Fte whole party are reported to be in good health. Cotton.— We have been shown it specimen of cotton, grown by Mr. Gibson, of the Mont, , which looks very well, and no doubt with proper care would be found a profitable crop in this country. The boll is not large, but the cotton is very fine ; ns an experiment, we think it entirely successful.—[Star. The Stnr states, although our regular files ot the Deseret News have not. reached us. we have been enabled (thanks to Mr. D. Tails, the San Bernardino mail carrier), to procure full files of that paper up to the 7th of October. The intelligence is of the utmost importance. , as it exhibits the Mormon leaders in almost direct conflict with the United States Government. It is stated that it bad been determined that it the U. S. army forced its way into Utah, to burn the city, towns, forts, etc.. and lay every habitation in ruins; that tbey bad already picked out secret places in the mountains to »•<-ache" their provisions, und make their future abode with the Indians.

Purchase of Land for a Convent-—The friends of the "Sisters of Mercy" at Sacramento have purchased for their use, on which it is designed to erect, as soon as possible, a Convent, a half block of land on M street, north side, hftweon 10th and 11th. in rear of the Hospital, for £4850, cash, ol M. 8.
