COATES BROS' WOOL CIRCULAR.

I'un.itixLPUia, June 1,1809

Witb the near approach of the new clip, dealers have ielt disposed to meet the views of manufacturers, so as to enable them to close out tbe old slock and be prepared for the new wool." come, quently there have been pretty heavy sales witbm the past ten days of both fleece and pulled, at several cents below tbe ask eg prices, at which tbey bad been firmly held for several months past. The market is now pretty bare of both descriptions, witb sufficient however, to meet the carrent wants of manufacturers who are not disposed to purchase except at extremely low rates, as many have stocks of woolen gooi'.s Still on hand, and those who have closed out their spring productions, have h.d to do so at such rates as will cot warrant any advance in the price of wool. Il seems prubable, therefore, that the new clip will open at about tbe same price as list year. In some sections, farmers have been locking for an advance, an 1 may be disposed to bold their wools until satisfied lhat the manufacturing interest cannot and will not pay it. This may delay the movs ing of a portion of the dip for a month or two, but, from the scarcitj of money in other sections, there seems to be no doubt but that farmers and growers will be glad to accept the pr.cet paid last venr. Business of all kinds is exceedingly depressed, and everything seems to be lending to a lower scale of prices. Tbe trade in wotlen goods especially has been exceedingly unsattslactory —in very few cases paying cost to the manufacturer. Although tbe market is now very dull, and the expectations of holders have been greatly disappointed, yet it seems probable tbat there may be some reaction as the season progresses, and that as soon as the dry goods market is placed on a sound oasis we may see a fair trade for wool.
