Ho says he arose in the night, took his lantern to go and feed the stock, when an impalaa came to him that thare must bo a tire, ami that he must Bet it. This impulse had so much inlluence ou him that he could not resist it. Hig lirst feeling was to sot his own barn on fire, rrajt Uteri the idea sal and upon him to go to Mr. Strong's* With his laßitern he went up aeaross the lot ts> tha rear of Mr. Strong's bam, and kindled tha kay between the cracks in the boards, and then raa> rapidly home. Seeing his work was oß'actual, ha was the earliest to give the alara-i. Whan he saw the huihlings blading he would have given any. thing to undo his work. He ha* attampted to destroy himself since, but could not. Tho strange story of Forward is probably correct, as persons In ing aecross the river on the heights above say that they saw the light of a lantern moving in the lield.
