MAY DAY FESTIVALS.

The iihii.il grand " May Day Festival*" with i crowning uf the " Queen of May," has notb« so numerous, nor so general this year as in fon, years, all this change has boon caused by the f„ ful absorption of peoples' minds in tho condilg of trade, and the depressing influences thorefrom. It seems cruel that suoh a state of things shod be, but when a whole City and State and all v people (herein, all I all 11 " make haste to be n,| they cannot be innocent"- and so tho recordi our Courts, and the loss and ruin of so many w i but a single year since believed they wero be the reach of adverse fate, but are now banki —shows they have not boon innocent, for in of being rich, contented and happy and nor, the enjoyment of merry-making scenes of |}, Day Children, they have turned away from tha scenes of happy and innocent joys because (In " made hasto to be rich," but alas I are nowpig indeed. If our happy " Merry Makings" with childr have had to pass by, wo notice there arc mant our societies of adults that are now holdiug "Pjl nics" everywhere this is well, such happy gatim ings in the country will have a tendency to i,| the blues," and induce to a more agreeable lifeg the future when this storm of dnll times andnxi shall have passed away and tho Sun of once more smile upon our people. • »»
