SCHOOL BOARD HAS MUCH COIN OX HAND

Coronado School District has $27,t 000 on hand, and unless something is done to invest the money before August 15, that sum will be turned back into the treasury, and be merged with the budget. A meeting ot voters will probably be called to decide on sonmk investment that will benefit the "chools. The trustees favor acquiring land, and a very attractive proposition has been made that will be discussed later. Last year $17,000 was turned back into the fund. Had some investment been made at that time, Coronado would have been well on the way with a new high school, as more than $40,000 would have been available. All this, dear reader, with the lowest school tax rate in the county. National City pays much more, the rale in the sister city being 65c, as against 40c here. However, National City has a nice high school building. The state apportions various sums to the schools, to take the place of the taxes formerly levied on utilities. The apportionment has worked to Coronado’s advantage. Also, the night school, which was maintained last year, showed a profit of $4lO, which was a pleasant surprise, as many folks supposed to be conversant with night schools predicted that a heavy loss would be shown. Anyway, there are 27,000 big fat dollars waiting to be used in some manner that will benefit the schools, and when the meeting is called, and which will be announced next week, every property owner and tax payer is expected to be on hand, so the motion may be made unanimous. Later —The meeting will be held at the school house on Wednesday, August 14, at 7:30. Come all of ye!
