Arthur J. Brar.der, a former Coronado resident was a visitor here th.s week. On leaving here fourteen years ago Mr. Brander went to Japan where he established himself as a commission merchant. Fortunately ior him he has been in the United States for the past seven months and escaped the horrors of the great earthquake. He expects to return to Japan soon. A. D. Otis, who has been visiting his son here is in tlie Coror.r.do 11 '• pital, where he has been confined fo the last few days with an extremely severe cold. He is now on the h gliroad to recovery. The liandsome new signs placed on Orange Avenue by the Automobile Club of Southern California at th' school zone and fire station, stand out so well that the passing motorist can not fail to see them and am accident caused by fast driving in that vifcinity in the future will certainly be gross caielessness. Mrs. Charles Reney of 127 J Avenue was suddenly stricken with accute appendicitis last Wednesday at 11:30 a m. Within two hours from the time he was called, Dr. Wegefoith had had Mrs. Reney transferred to the Coro nado hospital and had completed r successful operation and at the time the Journal goes to press Mrs. Reney is resting easily and on the way to a successful recovery. Mr. and Mrs. B. £. Oliphant of 812 Third street are receiving the congratulations of their many friends on the arrival of an eight pound baby girl, which was born early Friday morning at the Coronado Hospital. Mother and daughter are both doing well. Mr. Oliphant is a Chief Radio Electrician in the Navy. E. V. Korn, proprietor of the Little * Lunch Room has installed a new electric sign in front of his place of business. The new sign reads “EAT.” j - N. Gardner & Co., reports the sale uuring the past week of the new bungalow just being completed be tween Sixth and Seventh streets on B Avenue, by Elizabeth E. Sherman to Mr. and Mrs. James K. Mimnaugh, who will make it their future home Also the purchase of the house located at 865 E street by Joseph H. Rhoda from Ida E. Bruske. Mr. M. L. Lee, a Montana grain man was a visitor* in Coronado over iiist week end. Mr. Lee formerly lived in Coronado, and was engaged in the real estate business here for a number of years. He built the Montana Apartments at Ninth Street and F Avenue. Mr. Lee likes Coronado very much and expressed his intention of making his permanent home here again soon. His son Quintin (Brick' lee, who has many friends here, it now stationed at Honolulu in tke Army aviation corps. Miss Mary Howe, daughter of Mr and Mrs. C. W. Howe, who is at the Los Angeles General Hospital training to become a nurse, came dowr from Los Angeles last week end t< spend her birthday with her parents, returning to Los Angeles Sunday evening. Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Howe will drive to Los Angeles for a visit with their daughter. t Mr. E. M. Otero of Santa Fe, New Mexico arrived in Coronado last Wednesday to join his wife and her slat er, Miss Manderfield who are residing at 1215 Glorietta Boulevard for the winter season. W. A. Holman of Boston, Mass., has rented 901 Adella Avenue, for the winter season.
