CORONADO HIGH DEFEATS ARMY NAVY ACADEMY CORONADO ONLY TEAM IN THE LEAGUE NOT HAVING LOST A GAME

Coach Clyde Cook's Coronado high school varsity football team won a decisive victory over the Army and Navy Academy eleven, by a score of ;18 to 12, in a practice game Thursday afternoon on the Pacific Beach field. Coroirado made five touchdowns and sucessfully kicked the goals, and added three extra points by a drop kick from the thirty yard line by Hale. The Ca'dets scored twice, once on a blocked kick ’and the other by various line plays and forward passes. W. McCreery and Newcombe, Coronado half backs, each crossed the line twice for touch downs and the other was made by Goodbody. The Academy boys were somewhat handicapped by tire loss of their two star half backs and were no match for the local boys, but every inch of the way was fiercely contested. The descending darkness made it necessary to play the last quarter by the aid of automobile lights. Friday the Sweetwater Union High School football team defeated Grossmont Union High School eleven 26 to 0 on the Natioiral City field. Grossmont had previously played Coronado High a 13 to 13 tie and was a serious contender for the championship of the county conference, and their defeat at the hands of the Sweetwater team came as a surprise. Previous to this game Grossmont and Coronado were tied fif] first honors, neither team having lost a game. Coronado 3 0 1 1.000 Sweetwater .3 1 0 .750 Grossmont 2 1 1 .667 La Jolla 0 3 1 .000 Escondido ~0 3 1 .000 Each of these teams meet again during the season, but as Coronado has defeated all of them once it looks like they might be successful in doing it again, anil the indications are that the local school will carry off the championship this year. All of these games will be played in Coronado on the golf course and everyone is urged to go out and boost for our boys. The dates for these games' are as follows: Ocl. 31st, Escondido. Nov. 7th, La Jolla. Nov. 14th, Sweetwater. Nov. 21st, Grossmont. Major Ross, manager of the Coronado Golf Club and Wm. Clayton of the Spreckels Company have given the high school permission to use the polo grounds for the rest ji the season, on one condition, and that is that all spectators must come in and leave at the main entrance. No cutting across the field will be permitted.
