The schooner "American Girl," Captain Benson, sailed from this port on the 27th inst. for the Sound, and was beating off shore with a good N. W. breeze; At 8 P.M., while on the port tack, she struck on Duxberry reef, where she remained until an early hour yesterday morning, when she drove over the reef. Previous to this a boat was sent to town; arriving at 8 A. M. and the tug "Monarch" was despatched to her assistance, but on her reaching the scene the vessel was off, and came to town leaking badly. An examination was made yesterday, when it was found that she is very badly damaged. Her keel is completely ground to pieces. Seven planks on the starboard side are badly stove, and her stern and stern-post also badly damaged, and, taken altogether, the vessel is in a very bad condition. She is but partly insured.
