TWO ESCAPE OPEN JAIL

OAKLAND, Get. 26.—Two prisoners in the Alameda county jail. Ernest Booth. 25, known to the police as the "ammonia bank bandit." and Robert E. Grant, 24, escaped today when they produced pistols, locked the jailer in their ceil and, taking his keys, unlocked the doors. The two men had been convicted of recent east bay robberies. According to police records, both have previous criminal records and are paroled convicts. Authorities were working on the theory that the men had confederates waiting outside the jail with an automobile, as a machine was seen to drive off immediately after the escape.
