THE DEMOCRATIC CAUCUS.

The Democratic Joint Senatorial caucus met in the Capital Hotel last night at half- paat 7 o'clock, Senator Satterwhite of San Bernardino in the chair, and Gavigan, of San Frincisco, and Branch of Stanislaus acting as Secretaries. William T. Wallace, Niles Searles, C. T. Rylind, Jackson Temple and Lieutenant-Governor .Johnson were placed in nomination for United States -Seiiat.r. After three ballots had been taken, Wallace and Temple stood in the leaeL ' At this point in the proceedings a rather heated discussion arose between the friends of Wallace and Temple, which resulted in the withdrawal of the latter. On the fourth ballot, Wallace receiving 21 and Ryland 16 votes, the farmer was declared the unanimous choice of the caucus, two members, however, declining to vote, on the ground that they had pledged themselves not to support Wallace. The caucus then adjourned.
