Background


The Coronado Evening Mercury printed daily beginning May 16, 1887. The newspaper’s first business manager was Fred Kimball and the first managing editor was Robert Hornbeck. Its office was located at the corner of Orange Avenue and Third Street. Later locations included Orange Avenue and First Street, and on Orange Avenue between Second and Third Streets. On August 21, 1888, it became a weekly newspaper published every Tuesday renamed The Coronado Mercury. The last edition of The Coronado Mercury was published on July 25, 1896.
