Services for Gen. G. Jackson today; veteran of two world wan

Obituaries

Brig. Gilder D. Jackson, USMC (ret), a distinguished combat veteran of World Wars I and 11, died Saturday at his Coronado home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Christ Episcopal Church with interment at Ft. Hose cram National Cemetery. Jackson, 72, was commanding officer of the Marine Barracks at Pearl Harbor at the time of the Japanese attack, Dec. 7, 1941. During World War n, he commanded the 6th Marine Regiment of the 2nd Marine Division. Hie was in combat at Guadalcanal. Jackson, who lived at 806 Country Club Lane, was bom in Dover, Delaware, In 1893, and was graduated from the Wenonan Military Academy in 1912. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in August, 1917. He sailed for France in 1918 with the Marine Corps expeditionary forces and fought with the 3th Marine Regiment in the Aisne,

Aisne-Mame, St Mihlel and Meuse-Argonne campaigns. For his service in these battles he was cited six times in dispatches and was awarded the Navy Cross, Silver Star and the Purple Heart. He was decorated by the French with three Croix de Guerre* with palms and was authorized to wear the French Fourragere. Overseas assignments between World War* I and II included China and Haiti. He earned the expeditionary medal and for his duty in China received the Yangtze Service Medal. Jackson also was stationed all over the United States, with duty at various times in Quantico, V*,; the Philadelphia Marine Barracks, where he was commanding officer of the Marine Corps Basic School; barracks at Bremerton, Washington, Camp Elliott and the old Naval Operating Base here.
