Major Fitzgerald.—This gentleman, who has been residing here for some months, on leave of absence, for the benefit of his health, left yesterday on the steamer for San Diego, prior to joining the companies of his regiment, the First Dragoons, stationed atTueson, in the Gadsden Purchase. The numerous friends of the gallant Major will be glad to learn that his health is restored, and he is again fit for duty. Major Fitzgerald fias been on this coast for the past ten years, in active service all the time, and for the most of it engaged in trying and harassing duty in the North and in Oregon Territory, which at last brought on violent hemorrhage of the lungs, from which he has just recovered. He has been again consigned to frontier life, where we have no doubt he will do good service, in protecting the immigration, and chastising and keeping in check the savage Indians who i nfest that region of country. Racing.—The match between Don Pio Pico's Am. horse "Dick Johnson" and Don Jose Sepulveda's "Bayou Pinto" is to be run again, under the same contract and according to the same rules as before. The judges, &c., have been appointed, but the day has not been fixed. Chinese New Year.—This festival of the Celestials, commenced yesterday evening at six o'clock, and was duly celebrated by the representatives of the Flowery Kingdom resident here. There being only three of them (engaged in the Los Angeles Laundry,) the festivities were not of the most extensive character. But enough was done, to mark their respect for the great national holiday, The weather during the week has been unusually hot for the season, the themometer ranging for hours each day from 72 to 76. Of course there are no indications of rain, without which, for a short time longer, there is no foretelling the injury which will be sustained by the people of this district.
