Thurmond Blasts Court's Decision

WASHINGTON (UPI) Sen. Strom Thurmond, D-S.C., said today the Supreme Court's recent school prayer decision might lead to atheism becoming a national policy. He suggested that Congress should express its disapproval of the decision and take steps to keep the high court from handing down more far-reach-ing rulings in the same field Thurmond was among seven senators of both parties scheduled to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on a number of proposals to invalidate the court’s decision. One was a proposed constitutional amendment by Sen. J. Glenn Beall. R-Md. Beall said he didn’t want his bill to be considered “critical” of the court or its members.
