Clyde Lovellette and his mother: She showed a 'freak' why he needn't ever be afraid

One of the top players in professional basketball today, 6' 10" Clyde Lovellette came out of a Terre Haute, Ind., high school to become a two-time AilAmerican at Kansas University. One of the nation's leading scorers while in college, he led his Kansas team to the finals of the 1952 Olympic tournament, losing in the last few seconds to a seasoned AAU team of former college

stars. Lovellette and several other Kansas players, however, were picked for the U.S. Olympic team which won the world championship. In 1954 Lovellette joined the Minneapolis Lakers of the National Basketball League, since has become their No. 1 player. This season he has been one of the league's top scorers, averaging 20 points a game.
